The First Grade Blues

With the new school year just around the bend, naturally Jailyn's typical anxiety about change kicks in.

Jailyn: What if someone's mean to me, Mommy?

Me: Then you walk away from them, Jai. They are not your friends.

Jailyn: (unsatistfied) What if they kick me and hurt me on my ankle?

Me: Well...I suppose that if they kick you, you should definitely tell the teacher.

Jailyn: Well what if the teacher believes them instead of me? Can I kick the teacher and then you can come and sort it out with the principal?

Me: "....."

I really hope that the first grade is ready for her.
